HAIR FUE WITH NO ROOT TOUCH TECHNIQUE

Home / HAIR FUE WITH NO ROOT TOUCH TECHNIQUE

Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) is one of the most advanced and minimally invasive methods of hair transplantation. When combined with the No Root Touch (NRT) protocol, it becomes a highly specialized procedure designed to maximize the survival rate of the transplanted hair.

Instead of removing a large strip of skin from the scalp (as seen in older FUT methods), FUE with NRT focuses on extracting and handling individual hair follicles with extreme care.

1. Preparation and Anesthesia

The donor area (usually the back or sides of the head where hair is naturally thick and resistant to balding) is shaved. Local anesthesia is applied to numb the scalp, ensuring a painless extraction process.

2. Precision Extraction

The surgeon uses a specialized micro-punch tool (typically between 0.9mm and 0.8mm in diameter) to carefully isolate individual hair follicular units—natural clusters of 1 to 4 hairs.

This is where the No Root Touch protocol begins:

  • When the follicle is gently pulled from the scalp, the surgical team uses micro-forceps to grasp only the hair shaft (the visible hair) or the tough tissue near the top.
  • The instruments never touch, pinch, or crush the root bulb at the bottom of the follicle, which houses the vital stem cells needed for new hair growth.

3. Preservation

Once extracted, the pristine, untouched grafts are sorted and placed in a specialized preservation solution. They are kept at optimal temperature and moisture levels to keep the stem cells alive while they await implantation.

4. Implantation (Zero Bulb Contact)

The surgeon makes microscopic incisions in the recipient (balding) area.

  • During insertion, the strict No Root Touch rule continues. Specialized dull-tipped forceps or implanter pens/needles (like Choi pens) are used to slide the grafts into place without applying any mechanical pressure to the delicate root base.
  • The grafts are placed at specific angles and densities to seamlessly match your natural hair growth pattern.

Why Combine FUE with No Root Touch?

The addition of the NRT protocol elevates standard FUE by addressing its biggest risk: mechanical trauma to the graft. By keeping the stem cells pristine and uncrushed, the survival rate of implanted grafts can exceed 90–95%, which yields a much denser and thicker final result. This careful handling also means less wasted donor hair, allowing you to get maximum coverage out of your limited lifetime supply since fewer grafts die from trauma.

Additionally, the procedure leaves no linear scarring. Like all FUE procedures, it leaves only tiny, dot-like puncture marks in the donor area that become virtually undetectable once your hair grows out slightly. Recovery is also noticeably faster; both the tiny extraction wounds and the undamaged roots heal quickly, allowing the grafts to establish their new blood supply and speed up the overall healing timeline.

Because this technique requires meticulous precision and a highly coordinated surgical team working under magnification, FUE combined with the No Root Touch protocol is considered a premium standard of care in hair restoration.
